How I turned a $1150 gig into a productized service idea!

Hey Folks,

Chetan here, founder of Sorted Nomad.

This week, I want to do something a little different. Instead of sharing someone else's success story, I thought I'd take a moment to share my own journey with you.

From Gig to Goldmine: My Personal Journey

Been editing videos since 5 years. Have created more than 200+ videos for enterprise, real estate, softwares and B2B companies.

In 2023, somewhere in the month of May, I was watching a video on youtube about a guy who productized his design services and working all by himself. Productizing a service in which you are good is a fantastic idea I thought.

I went on Linkedin and reached 10 people, having "Growth Marketing" as their job titles. Fortunately, one replied saying they are looking for short ~1 min product videos for marketing. I replied back about the business model with my pricing. They wanted to test with one single video and then go on for a subscription if they like it.

Here's the exact pitch message that I sent on Linkedin:

Fortunately, one replied saying they are looking for short ~1 min product videos for marketing. I replied back about the business model with my pricing. They wanted to test with one single video and then go on for a subscription if they like it.

That one single video costed them $1150 and the video was a great hit. They liked the quality and the output and they commited to a long term contract.

I thought what if there are many ERIC's who are builiding great tech products but donot have motion video assets for marketing, This is GREAT!! This is GOLDMINE.

So I developed a website and called it Pexmotion.io - Crafting Animated Video Narratives for Tech and turned my idea into a productized video service.

Guess how much did I spend in setting the whole thing up:

$15 for Framer subscription and $50 for Adobe creative cloud subscription (For video editing).

Used Trello and Slack's free versions for communication with my clients and project management.

But the fact is I am not continuing to do this actively now as i had other priorities so as of now, i take video requests once in a while also this particular client churned out after getting done around 5 to 6 videos (as they had only that requirement)

But you get the idea of how you can turn your skills into businesses.

Why Am I Sharing This Story?

I believe in the power of sharing our journeys to inspire and motivate each other. Just think what if one of you discover a great idea and it turn into a business all while being a digital nomad and traveling the world.

My story is just one example of how a simple idea, when nurtured and executed well, can grow into something remarkable. I hope it encourages you to look at your own experiences and think about how you can turn your skills and passions into sustainable businesses.
